Individual Therapy is an opportunity to unpack the meaning of the things we think, feel, and do. We often see our mood in general terms, “bad, sad, mad, negative”, but we don’t have very much clarity about what those words really mean for us in the moment or why we feel them and do what we do because of them. When we don’t understand negative feelings, we are often prone to repeating behaviors that diminish our quality of life and leave us feeling stuck or trapped.
I work with difficult issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, attachment disorders, self-harm, and recovery from abuse or negative relationships. Most people are just looking for happiness, support, and safety in their lives. Achieving these basic needs can be extremely difficult when struggling with emotional issues, mental health challenges, or the memories of things that have happened in the past. My philosophy, and that of my colleagues, is to tackle these issues in the way that they are experienced and maintained, both in the brain and in the body.
I know that the fear of confronting past experiences can be so terrifying that many individuals choose to avoid seeking help, continuing to live in pain. My approach is to always start by building my client’s strengths, stability, and sense of control before we begin working through difficult issues. I use an integrative approach, combining the latest research from many different types of evidence based therapies while also helping you to build a sense of trust, connection, and self-appreciation. In addition, our office utilizes the remarkable neuroscience based therapy, neurofeedback for trauma resolution, which can help us to treat the physiological changes that traumatic experiences make to the nervous system.
